Candle care tips for safe & efficient burning

Candles can create a cozy and inviting atmosphere in any space, but it's important to practice proper candle care to ensure safety and maximize their lifespan. Here are some candle care tips:

Trim the wick: Before lighting a candle, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch (0.6 cm) in length. A longer wick can cause excessive flickering, smoking, or uneven burning.

Burn candles in a safe area: Always place candles on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from flammable materials. Keep them out of the reach of children and pets to prevent accidents.

Avoid drafts: Drafts can cause candles to burn unevenly or produce excessive smoke. Keep candles away from open windows, fans, and high-traffic areas where air movement is frequent.

Burn candles for a sufficient amount of time: Allow candles to burn long enough for the entire surface of the wax to melt to prevent tunneling. This helps to ensure an even burn and maximizes the candle's lifespan.

Extinguish candles properly: Use a snuffer or gently blow out the flame to extinguish the candle. This prevents hot wax from splattering and reduces the risk of accidental fires.

Avoid tunneling: If a candle starts tunneling, meaning it burns a hole down the middle while leaving wax on the sides, it can lead to wasted wax and an uneven burn. To avoid this, burn the candle long enough each time to allow the entire top layer to liquefy.

Store candles properly: Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Extreme temperatures can affect their quality, causing them to melt or lose fragrance.

Practice caution with container candles: If you're using container candles, ensure you extinguish the candle before all the wax has depleted, (leave about 1cm of wax in the bottom of the container). This prevents the glass from overheating and potentially breaking.
